Very pleased with this product. Heats up very quickly and is a nice size for the counter. Turns off when it reaches temperature setting and then turns back on and off to maintain setting.

We bought this burner for use on vacation in hotels. My son has dietary issues that can't be accommodated on the road. Some of the things we cook for him everyday that requires medium gas stove heat needed to be put on the low setting for this burner. Hopefully that gives you an indication how well this burner works.

This burner has worked well for me. The reason I bought it, and what I like most about it, is that it's 1100W. All the other burners I've seen at stores are 750W, which is fine for cooking small meals. This burner provides an extra little oomph of 350W to help with heating large quantities of water.

I bought this for my coconaras after my old burner stopped working. This thing was $5 cheaper than my old one, has one more coil, and lights the coals in under ten minutes. This lights 3/4 of the coal in 5 minutes and after you flip them its 1 or 2 more minutes before its cooked. Love this thing

Having been given the advice growing up that it is always best to travel light, I have traveled very light several times and lived to regret it. The old saying "I'll get one on the way or when I get there" can turn into a nightmare when you get there and the store either doesn't carry what you need or is out of stock.

Not to mention the waste of time having to shop when you could be doing other things while away from home and chores. I'm a woman, but shopping while on a trip is NOT something I enjoy and have come to dread. (To be quite honest, I prefer shopping online anyhow and you can't have things shipped to you while you're on the go.)

So I've decided to follow a different road of advice: Better safe than sorry. I'm preparing for an upcoming trip and for the first time, I'm NOT traveling light! But that doesn't mean that I want to haul around a lot of weight either, even though I did buy wheeled luggage I'm traveling by train and they have weight restrictions and the luggage is already a bit heavy. So this being a lightweight burner is a plus!

Hotels that have kitchen suites can be very expensive for what they offer. I don't care for the idea of having to scrub down, wash and disinfect pots & pans that have been used -- it's bad enough that I have to wash and disinfect the hotel bathtub/shower and replace the shower curtain with my new one -- and I am not too confident that the dishes can be disinfected properly what with all the scratches, chips and the porosity of the cheap ceramic they're made out of. I've never actually used hotel dishes, only the pots or pans and don't plan to again. I tend to use disposable plates and utensils when traveling anyway. And I recently purchased a pot that can be packed easily to use on this burner: MSR Alpine Stowaway Pot 1.6 L

The last time I stayed at a Residence Inn was when I was a teenager with my mom and the place was very run down and the stove didn't work well - definitely not worth half the price she paid for a night's stay. Mind you, I myself have never made reservations for any hotel rated less than 3.5 stars - I travel alone and it is a bit safer for a girl to stay at a decent place, especially when you travel to far away, unfamiliar locations. I use Priceline otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to afford the prices they're asking nowadays, but that also means no guarantee of a stove and it is nice to be able to make tea or warm up a can of garbanzos after a long ride. I probably should add that I never use microwaves for health and safety reasons, and food warmed or cooked on a traditional stove like this one tastes better. Period. I mean, have you ever tasted eggs made in a microwave? And the control you have over what you're eating helps avoid food poisoning while traveling and also helps one stick to one's dietary guidelines (non-GMO, no soy products due to allergies, etc.).

One final word of advice: Test it BEFORE you pack it. To begin with, it will emit an odor for a short period of time when first turned on. This is perfectly normal and you can either test it outdoors or, as I do, on the counter near the kitchen hood fan and keep the fan on. That way you will also know that it works - on rare occasion you might come across a defective one. (Perhaps not so rare for me, I've had two other brands from a big box store that didn't work well and returned both. But they were NOT this brand.)

Thank you for taking the time to read this review and if you have found it at all helpful, please let me know by voting below.

What's to say about a hot plate?

It works as advertised. Heats my pot fast whether its beans, water, or dead swamp rat.

I keep it stored in the box. I've used it approximately 20+ times now with no issues.

This sucker is nice and compact. ( If you're using a large skillet, that could be a disadvantage. ) The best thing about it is that when you set it on "High," it stays on high. This differs from many other single electric burners that will glow orange, but then kick off for awhile to cool down, before resuming all-out heat. Theoretically that will make the heating element have a longer life, but hey, I want to cook. Sometimes if you just need full-heat, as in boiling, the other burners just don't cut it.

If this unit has one downside, it would be the short length of the power cord. You have to be near an outlet, or since it draws a lot of power, have a large-diameter extension cord. The cord sometimes scares me, because it is so short that it is not that far from the heat, so you can't tuck it nice and neatly out of the way where your mind is at ease about it eventually melting.

I bought IMUSA single electrical burner for hot water (making tea or coffee or instant ramen). It works fine, noticeably slower than our kitchen electric cooktop burners which is to be expected because of the lower power (wattage) of IMUSA. It serves my purpose and I am very happy with it especially considering the price. It is small and can easily be stored away.

This was a life safer for my son with food allergies. Instead of renting a whole condo or efficiency, I took this in the hotel room with me and was able to cook him meals and pack them when we went out to the restaurants. It worked perfectly. No complaints and was easy to use!

Works really well, boils water in a small pot in just a couple of minutes for ramen. I love that I can just keep this in my room and make my own meals here. I read other reviews saying that it slants forward but I don't notice that on my mine and I haven't had a problem with it. It also cools down rather quickly after you turn it off, which I like a lot.
