We've replaced an older Cuisinart DCC-1200 with this DCC-3200. Since it's a popular line, I thought others might be interested in how they compare. (In the attached comparison photos, the 1200 is on the left and the 3200 is on the right):

Taste: Coffee in the 3200 is more flavorful. A new machine might be expected to be better, but I think they've gotten the flow and temperature of the brewing process better.
Temperature: The brewed coffee is much hotter. Both units have three temperature settings for the hot plate, but the settings on the 3200 are hotter.

Size and Capacity. The 3200 handles 14 cups compared to the 1200's 12 cups. Yet as you can see from the photos, they are the same height to fit on a counter. They seem to get the extra capacity by making the 3200 a little deeper from front to back. We've been surprised at how useful the extra capacity is.

Carafe: The new glass carafe is just like the old one, only larger. It pours nicely with or without the lid on it. The new lid works the same as the old one, popping off and on. (I read some complaints about the lid on an intervening model with a spring opening, but if so, they fixed that by going back to the 1200 style).

As far as I can tell, there isn't a version of the 3200 designed for a thermal carafe like there is for the 12-cup models. I prefer the glass carafe because it keeps the coffee hotter longer, and I can always pour the coffee into a thermal carafe if I want to.

Water Filling. The bigger size also increases the size of the water fill hole. The lid on the top of the 3200 unit raises to 90 degrees straight up, where the lid on the 1200 tilted further back and out of the way. Still the 3200 is easier to fill, and I suspect that the restriction on the tilt may help preserve the integrity of the hot water tube.

Sneak a Cup. Taking out the carafe to sneak a cup during brewing worked great on the 1200 with little dripping, and still does on the 3200.

Basket. The basket on the 3200 is very similar to the 1200, but a slightly different shape to accommodate more grounds for 14 cups. Actually, grounds just barely fit with a 4 cup paper filter in the new basket, and sometimes go above the filter in the basket. The basket actually seems more designed for the included gold filter.

Water filter. The 3200 uses the exact same carbon filters and filter holder as the 1200, but the holder seems to fit more snugly in its hole, which may help prevent clogging (see below)

Beep. The 3200 allows you to turn of the coffee-ready beep if you want.

Controls. Controls on the 3200 are a little easier. The 3200 uses all push buttons with no switches. Separate hour and minute settings make it a little easier to program and set the clock. There is a new "Bold" setting which does indeed seem to result in stronger coffee. There is still a setting for smaller, 1-4 cup pots, but I never use that. You can still set the hot plate to stay hot for up to 4 hours, which is important to me. There is a fairly bright blue glow from the LED display on the 3200.

Cleaning. There was a sensor button on the hot plate of the 1200 that's gone on the 3200, so the plate stays cleaner. The extra stainless steel looks good on the 3200 but probably shows smudges more and might benefit from special cleaner fluids.

Coffee Grounds Overflowing and Clogging. This was the biggest problem before, and I don't know if it's fixed, but it seems better. On the 1200, if you put too many coffee grounds in the filter it could overflow in the brewing process, and sometimes grounds would get into the water system and clog the tube. The 1200 was designed not to be repairable, but customers tried anyway with some difficulty. After one successful repair, we eventually had to replace the 1200. So far, we have not had any overflow issues with the 3200. The larger basket (with possibly a bigger drip opening), the deeper reservoir and longer case, and the more stable, non-tilting lid may help with this, but we will see how it works over time. I do notice that they made the bottom panel easier to remove, with regular screws instead of Torx, if it ever comes to that. My one tip for users is to always use the filter holder with a filter in it, even if your water is fine, because that should help prevent grounds from getting into the heating system.

In all, the 3200 is an excellent replacement for the 1200, and worth the extra money if you are choosing between the two models new.

You will want to read my review if you are in the market for a new coffeemaker. I am a type A person so let's just say I did my research before deciding what make and style was the best. I eliminated a lot of brands from numerous website reviews and looking at the quality of them in the stores. This left me with choosing Cuisinart brand but there are so many different styles to choose from- I had my work cut out for me. I personally tried the following models: 1200-nice but same old same old. Nothing new on the unit. 2600- a few minor updates but style was not updated on this one. The 2650 offered a few more features but the lid still leaks water off the back end when you raise it and the on/off switch looks like it could give me problems sooner rather than later. I then tried the 3200. After using it I would say that the engineers at Cuisinart finally put their heads together and worked to resolve the nit picky issues buyers had been complaining about with prior models. The 3200 also has the look of a quality made coffeemaker. The stainless steel is on the front and sides and has a richer, more expensive look to it than the other models. The push buttons are easy view. They light up when you select the ones you want. The lid does not leak when lifted up. Coffee is great tasting and the glass carafe keeps it super hot. It was everything I was looking for in a coffee maker.

I spent alot of time researching coffee machines before choosing this one for my Christmas list. I received it on Christmas morning and immediately set it up for my first cup. So far, this machine is amazing. The coffee comes out piping hot, the quality and taste of the coffee is noticeably better than my old Mr. Coffee, I grind my own coffee beans and have not had any sediment from using the gold filter; it can also accommodate the #4 paper cone filters. We program it to have our coffee waiting in the morning and and so far so good. I also love that there is an adjuster button for when yoou make 1-4 cups. The machine is beautiful and looks great on my counter.

Hands down, this has got to be the best coffee maker I have ever owned...Specifically speaking, this coffee unit has the "Brew Pause" feature which I just love...Never have to wait for the Carafe to completely fill up before enjoying a cup of coffee...Secondly, this unit has enough programmability that it isn't overwhelming to the end-user...

You can simply depress the "Auto Button" once and get 4 additional hours of "keep it hot time" or simply program it for longer periods...Additionally, one can have the unit completely full of water and just make 1 to 4 cups while keeping the flavor of the coffee just right because the unit adjusts for this selection...

It also allows you control the temperature of the coffee if you are one of those people that love to add cream and other things to your coffee...You can go from light, medium or hot with just a push of a button...And the alert tone can be turned on or off if this annoys you or your pet...

It is easy to fill and the filter and coffee grind holder are readily available for easy use and it cleans itself...I couldn't believe it... with just a push of a button..."Please follow the instructions for this feature because I think you have to add water and possibly vinegar to clean it properly...I am still new and a novice with this feature because I haven't used it yet...

It will look elegant on your counter because of the stainless steel look and the foot print of this unit is not too overwhelming or big, but just right especially for a 14 Cup unit...I have coffee readily available all throughout the day without microwaving anything anymore...And finally the price is right...

If something changes down the road; I will come back and update accordingly...

We have had the DCC-3200 for over a month and love our new coffee machine. One of the initial reasons why we went with this model over other Cuisinart coffee machines was the exterior is stainless steel instead of painted plastic. The coffee tastes great and we love the timer. If we had one complaint it is that the warmer turns off after 2 hours. It isn't a deal breaker but something you should know. Bottom line, is great tasting hot coffee in a nice package.

EDIT: I was informed that you can adjust the auto shut-off from 2-4 hours by holding down the middle button. The coffee machine is now perfect for us!

Most important point: Carafe doesn't drip everywhere when pouring (and coffee tastes great).

An improvement over the 14 cup 2800 model, the top of the 3200 keeps it simple and just lifts up from the front. The 2800 has a push button to pop open the top, which didn't seem to work well according to some reviewers. I also prefer the stainless steel look of the 3200 over the 2800.

All the other expected features are included: water filter, can use permanent filter or paper, brew pause, bold setting, programmable, adjustable carafe temps, under 5 cup brew setting.

What a nice coffee maker. We are not exotic coffee people. We just like a great cup of coffee in the morning. Our favorite is EIGHT O'CLOCK original whole bean ground in weekly batches in our Baratza Encore bur mill set on 20. When our Hamilton Beach started leaking water from a failing seal between the removable tank and the machine, I did the screen time reading Amazon reviews. So many machines. So many complaints. No clear outstanding models by anybody that some reviewer didn't thing was horrible, ha! We require a programmable start timer so many of the best rated makers were off the short list as they are manual operation only. Of the programmables, this unit was a new model with only a few reviews but all good reviews. Decided to give it a shot. What a pleasant surprise! Not only does the unit look great on the counter it brews a much more robust tasting cup of coffee than did the Hamilton Beach even though visually and functionally there is little obvious difference between them. Go figure. I did not expect the same coffee to taste this much better just by brewing it in a different machine. Controls are clear and easy to set. I recommend it.

I really like this coffee maker. Prior to owning this model, I had another Cuisinart model that had a thermal carafe. I had actually been searching for a replacement model with a thermal carafe. So many of those had mixed reviews and I got frustrated to the point where I just switched my search to a glass carafe model. I chose the Cuisinart DCC-3200 based solely on the great reviews it had received and I'm pretty happy with the unit in the couple of months that I have had it. I do not use the preset timer as I have somehow managed to turn into a coffee snob and refuse to let my coffee sit overnight in the machine. There is a "bold" button that, I'm not really sure what it does during the brewing process. I have brewed with and without it and have not seen any noticeable difference in taste. I have found, though, that if I overfill the reservoir a weebit, the bold setting helps to compensate. I can't explain why this is, but it works. The one big difference between this model and my prior Cuisinart is the temperature of the coffee. You really need to be careful here. The heating plate temperature has 3 setting, low, medium and high. By default, it comes set to medium which is where I have kept it. I cannot fathom what high must be like because medium is surface of the sun hot and requires so resting time for poured coffee before it can be consumed. I'm not kidding on this, the DCC-3200 makes VERY hot coffee.
Like I said, I have been very happy so far with the maker. No complaints to date. As with any product, I'm sure that some of these will ship with issues, but I have not had any. I can attest to the the good reviews as being accurate. This would make a great gift for a coffee lover.

Makes great coffee. We have owned quite a few Cuisinart Coffee makers and this is the best so far. Easier to program and operate than the others. Seems to need less coffee for the same strength probably 20% less and we are using the normal brew mode. I do prefer to use Melitta paper filters over the gold tone it's just less messy and easier.

Honestly I'm not quite sure where these negative reviews are coming from, or if people are just reviewing the wrong product. I've been abusing this coffee maker for months now, and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. I average a 12 cup pot every morning, utilizing the wake up coffee feature (probably my favorite thing about this machine), and have yet to be disappointed. Consistent brew strength, no issues with leaking water or grounds in the pot, or really anything negative at all. I've only used the brew pause function a handful of times, but again, have not had any issues doing so. My thought is, if you're looking for a good coffee maker to abuse and fuel your addiction, and if you'll take care of if–clean it regularly (self-clean makes this a breeze), change your water filters (really simple and does make a difference in taste), make sure not to over-fill it (I know sometimes 14 cups doesn't seem like quite enough, and you want that extra 1/4)–then this coffee maker should be perfect for you. I don't know how I ever lived without mine!
