Canister Vacuum Cleaners
BISSELL canister vacuums are light and easy to maneuver. They’re great for stairs and other surfaces like curtains, upholstery, auto interiors, and more.
What are the benefits to cleaning with the BISSELL Zing Bagged Canister Vacuum?
BISSELL Zing bagged canister vacuum makes any cleaning task seem effortless. The lightweight design and carry handle provide portable convenience. The Multi-Surface Floor Nozzle allows for easy cleaning of carpet, rugs and bare floors. The telescoping wand allows you to comfortably maneuver around and under furniture and also clean hard to reach areas like drapes and ceilings. When you are finished, the cord will automatically rewind with the push of a button.
What is the difference between an upright vacuum and a canister vacuum?
Canister vacuums are low to the ground vacuums that have a long hose with a wand on the end. As you clean through the hose and wand, you pull the canister unit behind you. Upright vacuums stand tall and have a handle, which is used to push the vacuum. When cleaning carpets, the debris is removed through the foot or base of the unit. Most uprights also have a hose and on-board tools, which are typically used for hard to reach places and when cleaning furniture. At one time, canisters were thought to be easier to use for cleaning hard to reach places and for cleaning a larger variety of floors surfaces. However, the uprights of today have added cleaning features, such as bare floor height adjustments, brush roll on/off switches, and are easily maneuverable. In addition, the on board cleaning tools have made upright vacuums even more versatile.Although uprights are easier to use and more effective at cleaning larger areas in the home, they can still be a challenge when cleaning stairs.
Which type of vacuum is better -- bagless or bagged?
Neither type of vacuum is “better” than the other. A bagged vacuum will lose its cleaning effectiveness as the bag fills with debris. The bag must be changed when it is about 1/2 to 2/3 full for the best cleaning performance. The choice between a bagged and bagless vacuum really depends on your personal preference.
Portable, Multi-Surface Cleaning!
  • Powerful suction gets the dirt high and low--great for bare floors, rugs and above-floor cleaning
  • Easily go from cleaning carpets to hard floors with the flip of a switch
  • Automatic cord rewind for quick cord storage with the push of a button

How is it possible that a 43 y/o male union pipefitter can be so psyched about a sub $40 vacuum? Yes, I do most of the cleaning and cooking in this castle. So there.

I ordered this vac based on the reviews here and will be put to use at the cabin 'up north' which mainly has wood floors,a few rugs and small carpeted areas. I did a quick test around the house to give the vacuum a proper shakedown Assembly was a breeze (who looks at the manual anyways?) and it took a total of 5 minutes from opening the box to plugging in the power cord for some serious dust bunny busting.

This little vac really sucks up the floor. I cleaned 4 rooms in a matter of minutes compared to using a swiffer type floor duster thingy which I normally use, then suck up the piles with the hose attachment from the upright vacuum, which really is a pain and not an efficient use of time. I giggled like a little girl cleaning the linoleum bathroom floor of all the Chewbacca dander the wife and daughter leave behind after a 2 hour session of styling and blow drying. Seriously, the amount of hair that fall off their heads everyday could choke a billy goat. So I was happy that the little purple vac cleared the floor in no time.

Next was to tackle the lint and dust on the hardwood floors under the beds. Piece of cake. I think I heard the little purple vac mutter, "is that all you got?" Fine then, let's hit the dining room and get rid of all the crumbs, dust and whatever the dog dragged in that I somehow managed to miss when I supposedly cleaned the other day. No problem. Next was the living room where it still baffles me how much scuzz manages to accumulate under the sofa and chairs. Debris sucked up in seconds. And the little purple vac did a fairly decent job picking up rawhide bone bits that the dog left behind on the area rug. I evened vacuumed the walls where dust had built up due to the constantly running ceiling fan in the upper landing.

I'm pretty impressed with this vacuum. It's light, not too noisy (about the same as all the other upright vac's I've owned) and does a really nice job cleaning hard surfaces. I personally probably would not count on this vacuum to do regular carpet cleaning duties, but for quick crumb cleanups it'll do just fine. You really need a rotating brush and a beater bar for carpets. Plus a steam cleaner/ extractor if you have pets. Don't ask...I also found the cord rewinder worked well.

If I can find one fault it's not with the vacuum itself but the attachments- where's the dust brush? No big deal for me as I have a few that I kept when the other previous vacuums I've owned 'bit the dust'. Yes pun intended. Not everyone is going to have a drawer full of leftover attachments. I do like that Bissell included 3 spare dirt bags in the box.

In Summary:
1) Cheap (I mean inexpensive)
2) Cleans/ dusts/ sucks dirt on hard surfaces without a hiccup.
3) Light and maneuverable. I haven't used a canister vac in over 25 years (last one my parents owned).
4) Will do a quick cleanup on carpet (crumbs, confetti, hair, etc). This isn't a shop-vac so for wet spills use something else. Like a shop-vac or an extractor. My house is 50/50 carpet and hard surfaced floors and I use an upright vac for carpets.
5) I like it. A lot. Which means squat to 99.9999995% of the people reading this review.

I have no idea how long this vacuum will last. I used it for a total of 30 minutes so far and I didn't see anything wrong with it. In fact, I'm so impressed with this little purple vac that I'm considering getting another one for most of the cleaning duties and just use the upright for the carpets and rugs. I also read some of the negative reviews here and I'm a little puzzled on what people expected of this vacuum. No- it won't thoroughly clean carpet. I'm 6'1" and found the telescoping wand to be a decent length for me. I never had it flip or tip over, and I'm not the nicest on equipment. And if the hose rips I'll break out the electrical tape and patch it like I've done numerous times for the other vacuums I've had.

And that's about it.

The Bissell Zing Bagged Canister Vacuum is a small, rather lightweight vacuum that is ideal for hard floors and spot service on carpet. While everyone talks about Dyson's and some of the other high-end vacuums the Bissell provides both great service at a very attractive price.

Notes-

- Assembly was very painless - it took me less than 5 minutes to have it out of the box and ready for vacuuming.

- Lightweight assembly - empty (meaning the bag is empty) it weighs about 5lbs, so it is ideal for people who need to take their vacuum up and down stairs.

- Comes with an upholstery and multipurpose tool

- Is light enough to be carried but it also has wheels so that it can be rolled.

- Retractable cord

- Maybe a slightly less noisey when compared to some of the other vacuums on the market.

Final verdict - The Bissell Zing Bagged Canister Vacuum is a solid vacuum for hardwood floors (and ceramic tile) and for some spot carpet duty. What makes the Bissell Zing even more attractive is its price - in an era of vacuums costing hundreds of dollars it is nice to see that you can get a good all-around vacuum for a fraction of that cost.

Getting a miniature vacuum makes good sense if you spend time in a motor home, have a car interior to clean, or live in a small apartment. The Bissell Zing has many good features, a couple of weird ones, and one drawback. Here they are:
1. The suction on this thing is IMMENSE. No wonder it comes with a dial to regulate the amount of air pulled in. It literally sucks the vacuum to the floor. Running it over upholstery nearly changed the color of the couch, it removed so much dust. The power of it makes it wonderful for tall draperies, lampshades, too. Picks up dog hair great. It works so well on hard floors that just holding it in front of the refrigerator pulled dust from the coils without touching them.

2. The vac is TINY. It is not much bigger than a beach ball. The various tips included for crevices are so small the whole bag of them fits in the palm of your hand. The wand is short, although it extends, it doesn't extend enough for me to use it and stand up. I'm not tall but that did mean having to bend to get the wand to the floor, and a large place done that way would make for a back ache.

3. NOT FOR CARPET. The manufacturer did not include ANY attachment to make this thing work on carpet. This is strictly a hard floor or upholstery cleaning device. Okay, I guess if you are diligent you can run it over your carpet, but there's no beater bar.

4. The manufacturer needs to think a little more about consistency of quality. The wand or tube that connects the flexible hose to the suction head is heavy stainless steel, perfectly engineered to have an internal extension. It is actually quite heavy and feels like fine quality machinery should. The flexible hose is the cheapest, easy to crush or crack plastic possible. It feels like what you'd get on a very cheap child's toy. It is not flexible, either, it is so stiff that no matter how you place the thing it stays stuck in the shape it was in in the box.

5. The cord extension/retraction button is conveniently placed right on top so you can use your toe to haul in the cord. However the cord itself is very short. Fine for a motor home but annoying in a house to have to plug it in again in every room.

6. It doesn't roll very well. It has wheels and they turn, but they are the same type of cheap plastic as the flex hose, and they turn as if there are no bearings or metal in them - plastic on plastic that kind of sticks. If you're in a smaller place you may not need to wheel it much. I found that trying to guide it around by the warped hose on wheels that didn't turn well made it want to flip over.

With the few negatives aside, I still recommend this little vacuum if you have a use for it. I'd get it for the upholstery alone because it is small and light enough to carry around in one hand while you use it on the sofa with the other. It does a great job of that. As a home vac I recommend it for small places with no carpet.

So far so good. Used it 3 times now, all hardwood floors, small apartment. Great suction, easy to use. Got all that dust in the window seals. All the dog hair (3 dogs). It is really great & compact, glad I took a chance on it. Lays flat for under sofa, entertain and dresser areas. Metal piece is a good 3ft tube is maybe another 3ft.

Lightweight, easy to maneuver and small enough to tuck into tiny closets in my overcrowded NYC apartment. As others have said, it is much better on hard floor surfaces than on the rugs, but it still does the job. The attachments that come with it are comically small but I just use the old ones from another old vacuum. Great on cat hair and litter pickup. And it is so quiet compared to my Dirt Devil, which sounds like a plane taking off. Love this little machine.

I really like this little canister with the big power. I had a Kenmore similar to this and liked how it handled and was lightweight. My BISSELL ZING is all that and more. I can now control the suction power, it seems to roll easier, the hose swivels smoother and the bare floor head has a little flap underneath to help push and gather dirt/hair/dust for easier pick-up.Love that feature. It comes with small attachments which I didn't care for, but other buyers have said I can purchase normal sized ones that will fit the wand.

I would like to add that I have looked and looked for the "perfect" vac in Sears, Walmart, Kmart and never found it. Decided to check out Amazon and here it was, within minutes. Literally. I honestly recommend this Zing to everyone who's in the market for a great cannister at a great price. It came with 2 extra bags, but while I was in the area, I ordered a pack of 3. BISSELL Zing Bagged Canister Vacuum, Purple, 4122

I bought this vacuum for my sisters kitchen floor for a Christmas gift, We used it last night Christmas eve, worked great, but the bags on line here at Amazon are not right and they say they are. I bought extra and they are the wrong ones for this model #. And if you read the reviews a lot of people got took in like me, and got the wrong bags. I was not happy with Amazon over this one! They need to correct the information about the bags for this model #4122. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very pleased with this little vacuum - well made, effective unit. As others have noted, it's only flaws are a shortish cord and rather short tube, making vacuuming position a little uncomfortable for taller folks. Not that great on pile rugs, but is perfect for bare floors and low pile carpet.

Love that it is easy to maneuver, has reel-in cord and good sized bag for such a small unit. Highly recommended at $50 price point.

After reading many reviews, I went with this canister. I wanted something really light and maneuverable for the carpet on the curving stair case that is the first thing that greets you when you enter the house. My carpet is really a light color (almost white) and very plush. This vacuum has been perfect for what I wanted. Really strong suction. I use the small attachment, which I wish was a little larger, but it works really well and gets into all the corners and crevices. I still have a little problem with the black Pomeranian hair that embeds in the carpet, but I haven't found any vacuum that handles that. I go over the stairs occasionally with a damp sponge that gets it up. It is perfect on upholstery and picks up the black Pomeranian hair there with ease. This is the best vacuum I've used for upholstery. I never use the large attachment because I have a couple of upright vacuums for the floors. This is very light weight considering the power. No problem for a 70 yr. old woman on the stairs. It is well made and the retractable cord is a nice luxury. All in all, it has been perfect for the stairs and upholstery. I have used it for months, and it seems really well made. No problems at all.

I purchased this Zing for nothing more than curiosity admiring the remarkable similarity to my $300 Miele Olympus canister which I absolutely love. So how does the Zing compare? Truthfully Bissell copied feature for feature from the Miele except for the amazingly quiet motor. The Zing sounds load and harsh compared to the whisper quiet Miele. The Miele also appears to have better build quality (it's made in Germany) and is better balanced (lower cg) while traversing the floors. Overall I am quite impressed with the bagged Zing and you really can't beat the price / performance metric. Well done Zing!
