There are many recent poor reviews of this product since the changes made to the filter packaging in winter 2015. Being a diligent Amazoner I listened and ordered the "old" 4396810 blue filter from another source that appeared to have back stock. Well they sent me the new filters! So I gave it a try.

The packaging mentions it is still a PUR licensed filter. I popped it in, ran out a gallon. The water was clear and taste like nothing-just how I like my water.

I will update as appropriate for longevity. I found the blue filters to be good for 3-4 months in the summer and 4-5 months in winter ( we drink mush more in the summer)

I also opened up the blue filter to see what is so special that people yearned for, it's just a chunk of charcoal with a sock on it. I'll open up the new white filter when it is spent.

I installed the filter after receiving it yesterday. I had been agonizing for a few weeks after reading all of the negative reviews on Amazon. I finally broke down and ordered it as this was what was now recommended by my refrigerator manufacturer following the demise of PUR. I installed the filter and flushed it with 2 large pitchers of water ... no leaks ... no restricted flow ... no issues at all. Then I tentatively sipped the first cup of water expecting plastic tastes ... guess what? water ... plain and simple. No after taste, no discoloration ... just water ... the new filters are just fine folks ... just like the old ones

Well, we have only had this for a short amount of time but it was less than half the price that Lowe's was charging (we got it for $9.99 plus shipping charges and Lowe's was charging $50 for one). It is apparently the replacement for our old filter which was the Whirlpool 4396841P PUR Push Button Side-by-Side Refrigerator Water Filter. I couldn't even find the original filters at Lowe's which is the only place in town that sells filters for our refrigerator. It installed easily and so far seems to be doing fine. We have extremely hard water so we don't push filters too far and the kids and I can taste if the water isn't being filtered. So, it is working so far!

Not much of a difference from the old filters. But it fits and works as promised. Claims to filter better than the old Whirlpool filters by PUR but its hard to tell the difference without equipment. Taste is the same. Everydrop by Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Filter 3 EDR3RXD2 (Pack of 2)

I have no idea what the negative reviews are talking about. Some people are complaining about a weird taste, but after replacing the older model for the new, it was exactly the same. We let the other filter go 2 months too long, so the difference was very noticeable once replaced. It was the same quality and taste as before!

There seem to be a lot of negative reviews that have strangely different complaints but one thing in common: They wanted a "PUR" filter. I wonder if this may be a purely psychological issue; those who expected a PUR filter were disappointed in what they received and looked for something wrong with it. The truth is that this is still a PUR filter. In fact, if you check out the picture of the item right here on the Amazon product page, you will see that on the right side of the box near the bottom is the PUR logo. If you "need" a PUR filter, this is it.

I've had no problems with this filter at all after using it for about 4 weeks now. I will mention that I am careful to follow the instructions and flush enough water through the filter initially. If you haven't flushed enough water then any taste issues may be due to that, so perhaps try flushing more water through. The water from my filter tastes exactly the same as it did with the previous version of this filter. I drink several glasses every day and it tastes exactly the same. No one else in my household even noticed that we used a different filter than before. We had several visitors for 4th of July weekend and since we live in the scorching hot desert, we went through at least a few gallons of water through their stay and we actually got comments about how nice and clean it tastes.

I will agree with those who complain that the price is getting outrageous. I am bothered that the price has gotten so high. Currently it is about $7 per month to use this filter, and I would definitely spend more than that buying bottled water. I'm not claiming that the price is great, just trying to be pragmatic about something that is as confusingly controversial as a water filter!

Overall I would recommend this as an "upgrade" of the previous version since it removes a significantly higher number of contaminants compared to the last version. Seeing as how there's not an option to buy the previous version, the water still tastes great, and the price is still practical compared to the alternative, purchasing this is a good choice in my opinion.

I read reviews claiming this filter would make my water taste like chlorine or soap... I have not had an issue with the taste of my water. I flushed 4.5 gallons of water before I turned my ice maker back on or dank from a glass of water. If anyone is hesitant to buy this after reading the bad reviews, like I was, just take the chance.

I read a lot of reviews on this filter on Amazon and other sites and 99% of them were very negative. Turned out to be the only option for my refrigerator so I ordered it. It fit like it was supposed to and the water and ice have tasted fine. I noticed no difference between this and the older blue filter from Pur. I am glad I took a chance plus the cost is much less than the Pur one.

I used to buy the original water filters made by Whirlpool and shipped from Amazon. But decided to try this filter as a replacement for that original one. This one was so much easier to install than the Whirlpool one. Will see if it filters water the same. And the price is fantastic - almost half of the original Whirlpool. $60 for a water filter is ridiculously overpriced by Whirlpool.

This is the easiest, most economical and convenient way to purchase a water filter for my Whirlpool refrigerator. It's not one of those things that is fun to go out and buy but you have to have it. The price on amazon is better than any price I have found in a store and definitely much better than the price you get in the mail offers from whirlpool. Buying this on amazon makes it easy and convenient to go back to my account and buy a new one whenever necessary without having to go to the effort of finding the proper model number and taking that to the store and searching for the right one. These are easy to install and fit perfectly in my refrigerator. I have a whirlpool side by side. I have never had any trouble installing the filter or with leaks etc. It does the job- water tastes good and I have the peace of mind knowing my family is drinking pure water. When you install it, the water filter light turns back to green and you can forget about it until the light turns yellow or red. They seem to last a long time so it's not a purchase I have to make too often even though our water dispenser gets a lot of daily use. The water has a good taste and no smell. The ice also has no odd smell when I use this filter. I would highly recommend this Whirlpool refrigerator filter and would definitely suggest buying it from amazon to save both time and money.
