My original pivot vac will no longer keep a charge, and I've been looking for a decent replacement. Thank goodness that B&D finally came out with this lithium powered model! It has the rubber flap to keep debris from falling back out, and a charging stand that automatically makes contact and can be wall mounted. It is more powerful, runs much longer, all while being smaller & lighter. The brush pivots up when needed and is never lost. A nice feature is that it comes apart for easy cleaning. Overall a super unit, it wins over the Dyson and Hoover and Shark, by far.
Update: Evidently you can replace the battery pack, when needed. Two screws hold on the side cover, and then the battery pack plugs in. Great improvement over earlier models!

This review is for the BDH2000PL MAX Lithium Pivot Vacuum 20-volt
I needed a replacement for my Black & Decker PHV1800 vacuum. The PHV1800 worked well for over 4 years until its battery wouldn't hold a charge. I used the PHV1800 to clean out my car. The BDH2000PL easily picks up sand from the car's floorboard. After vacuuming the entire car, the vacuum still has plenty of run time. The built in crevice tool is handy for cleaning around the car seats.
The BDH2000PL seems to be the same design as the Black & Decker PHV1810, except the BDH2000PL has a 20V lithium ion battery. The BDH2000PL also has a rubber flap in the canister to prevent dirt from falling out through the nozzle. The PHV1810 reviews mention that dirt falling out of the nozzle is a problem with the PHV1810.
The BDH2000PL comes with a charging cradle that can sit on the floor or be wall mounted. The cradle includes two screws for wall mounting.
The vacuum has a dim blue light on its side. While the vacuum is charging, the blue light flashes. The light goes out when the vacuum is fully charged. The light also comes on when the vacuum is running. It seems that the designers at Black & Decker have finally listened to the complaints about their charging lights being annoyingly bright. You can't see the light on this vacuum more than a few feet away.
The built-in crevice tool extends from the nozzle several inches. The crevice tool pushes into the nozzle when not in use.
The built-in brush is attached to the nozzle. The brush folds out of the way when not in use.
The filters on the vacuum use a simple twist lock. The filters can be easily removed for cleaning. The dust canister/nozzle can be removed for cleaning as well. The filters can be removed without removing the canister/nozzle.
I am very pleased with this vacuum. I would recommend it to friends. I would buy it again.

The best part about this vaccuum is that it's light enough that my 3 and 5 year old can use it, and powerful enough that it's actually effective!
Also- it is all easily cleaned and re-assembled. We use it every day!

I needed an additional vac for upstairs bedrooms, bedrooms, office and couldn't be more happy. My other B&D CHV1410 is only a 14.4 volt and that one I thought was great. This one is 20 volt and you can instantly see the difference in power. Its actually more quiet than the 14.4 but a bit heavier. The 14.4 doesn't fold up like this model does which is a great feature on this 20 volt. I can store it in a shelf unit and not have it stick out like the other one does. The charging base is great too, nice and sturdy (comes with screws to mount if needed).
The pivot head is great for many surface areas like the top of a shelf or ceiling fan blades because you can angle it just right. Another major feature of this model is that you can wash the filter and filter cup/bowl to get the dust out and clean it real good. You can purchase replacements if needed for just under $8. There's a flip up brush at the tip as well as a crevice tool that you pull out. I do wish that the crevice tool was a little longer though.
This vac is powered by Lithium Ion battery which should outlast the old NiCad's that after a year or so don't hold charges. There is a faint blue LED charge light on the unit itself. This shows the level of battery left. It is very dim so its not super easy to see but that's ok, so many other things have lights that at night light up the room.
This vac is all about power, when you put your hand over the mouth of the vac you can really feel the strong suction. I had no problems picking up dirt, cat liter, rice, and other food crumbs. Its so good that I put the old vac upstairs and am keeping this stronger one in the kitchen as it will get more use and take advantage of all its power.
It comes with a 2 year warranty and a 30 day money back guarantee. For the price, its a sweet deal!

I can't comment on durability over time I will repost if I encounter any problems. My initial use of the item is stellar. This is my second cordless hand vac by far my best in my experience with the vac.The lithium battery gives me a little over 15 min of use time. The suction is by far outstanding in my opinion for a hand vac this size. It allowed me to vaccume my car front and back, and then my small truck before the battery life dissipated. Around my apartement I find myself reaching for it more because it's so convenient to use.

UPDATED: A more serious review.
There are so many very good & thorough reviews about the Pivot already, I'm going to keep this short.
For me, this vacuum replaces my Miele upright JUST for those awkward, hard-to-reach places, spill clean-ups & quick touch-ups between house-wide cleanings.
No, it is not as efficient as my upright at picking up dirt and soil, but it still manages to have 70% the power of my full-size, while being 85% smaller. For me, the much greater portability makes up for the somewhat lesser suction.
The unit will run for approx 15 min of nonstop use on a full charge, which should be enough time for it's intended use on smaller areas/spills/etc. It is an augmentation to your full size-vacuum, which is designed to run for extended amounts of time. The recharging base is small and has a blinking blue light to indicate active recharging.
The Pivot puts power above noise and weight, so if you are looking for a very light & portable unit that doesn't have the volume of a full-size, Black & Decker offers many other models for you to look at and consider. I do not find it particularly noisy or heavy, but compared to my old 4.8 Volt from 2000 (see my attached pic for this fine, vintage model that STILL works!), it certainly is a beast. Incidentally, they still make a 4.8 Volt model, the CHV4800, for those looking for a light, quiet Dustbuster...
Emptying dirt is relatively easy, but the fact that it is bagless means it can be a little messy when you pop open the dirt-catching bowl. I recommend cleaning in the basement or a room where dust is not an issue. The unit also is VERY efficient at picking up dirt and dust and KEEPING it inside the unit, so you may find yourself emptying the dirt bowl somewhat regularly, especially if you are vacuuming a very dusty/dirty rug/room. A more thorough cleaning is easy and should be done frequently enough to keep the unit "breathing" well. The dirt bowl and filter can be removed and washed in the sink. The filter should be replaced after 6 months of fairly heavy use (or longer if used sparingly) in order to keep the unit healthy. Otherwise, you may risk shortening the life of your Pivot. As long as you take care of it, the Pivot will last a long time, just as my 15 year-old Dustbuster model proves.

I had the prior version of this which only had a Ni-Cad battery, which I always thought was really stupid. You couldn't really just charge it any time you wanted to, without negatively affecting the battery, you had to let it run all the way down first.
This one can be charged whenever, without having to deplete the charge first, which makes total sense for a device like this.
It seems to perform about the same, ie., quite strong. And, it's lighter in weight than the prior version, which is much nicer. I find myself using it all around the house and also to vacuum my car. It's working great so far.
Like the prior model, it doesn't last all that long on a charge, however it is convenient to recharge it with the included charger which also functions as a stand. This is also different than the prior model which just had a plug to charge it, no stand.
I also think this one looks cooler than the old model which was turquoise and white.

I ended up with two of these Vacs because the 18V one had the plastic hinge break on it. I ordered a complete new housing assembly and decided I would use it in the garage/boat. It does not have a mount which has been a pain for us, since it's been used in the kitchen and dining room the most. The 20V version of this vacuum does have a mount so I decided to order it as well. I've owned the 18V for about two years and it is still going strong. As you can see from my video it has a little more suction than it's newer cousin. I really like both Vacs and having the 20V mounted on the wall is really nice. These are lightweight and very powerful hand vacs. I've used them to clean out the cars, vacuum the floors, clean the couches. They are lightweight too. Just be careful with the empty cover hinge as it is weak plastic. One other issue I had with the 18V is that the rubber flap started making a lot of noise. It was like it was resonating and made the Vac even louder. I trimmed it a little and that helped some, but the problem was solved when I replaced the entire housing as the flap is now brand new. Hopefully it won't happen in the new one.

light and portable, yet powerful enough to suck up cobwebs, dust bunnies, crumbs, stray litter, bits of debris, etc.
i've used this around the house, in the car, and anywhere i need to clean without being tethered by an electrical cord or the larger standard upright or canister type.
the pivoting nozzle is extendable to get into nooks and crannies, able to lock into the position needed. the flip up brush on the nozzle is good for softer surfaces such as upholstery or drapes. i found the nozzle great for use in corners where stair treads meet risers, or on clean up the top of shelf up high.
the first button on the handle releases the nozzle so that it can be pivoted to the position necessary. the second button is a slider that powers on the unit on or off.
engage the pivoting nozzle until it is against the unit's body to make it compact and ready for its charging base. the powered charging base's plastic seems flimsy compared to the vacuum's heavy duty plastic, but it's sufficient to cradle the vacuum for charging. the base can be set on the counter, table or floor, or mounted on the wall with the included mounting screws.
a dim blue led light flashes slowly when the unit is docked into its charging base. upon being fully charged, the led discontinues illuminating to indicate it is "ready". when the vacuum is in use, the led illuminates steadily for "on". when the vacuum starts to run out of charge during use, the led flashes quickly as a warning before all the power is discharged. first time charging can take up to 4 hours with subsequent charging time seeming to be less than that.
this isn't meant to replace corded unit's ability to run non-stop. this limited amount of time on a battery-based product is sufficient for on and off use while doing a quick cleanup. continuous usage running time may vary. approximately 15 minutes is my best time thus far. a lot of small factors impact how long it can run continuously, such as suctioning effort, operating temperature, how much debris is collected, etc.
the pivot's cylindrical dirt chamber opens easily for emptying of collected debris.
my favorite feature is that the nozzle and cylindrical dirt chamber unit is removable for a thorough washing. push the side button on the nozzle, and the assembly releases from the body of the vacuum. a removable and washable pre-filter and filter is inside the chamber and the filter itself is replaceable. i personally like washable filters due to their reuse ability. that's why i also have a dyson upright.
the dirt chamber has an internal rubber flap where the nozzle joins it, which helps trap debris from falling back out the nozzle. this is perfect for when you use the unit to suck up pesky insects or food items, and you don't want them to escape back out should the unit be powered off.
the black and silver color scheme is attractive enough should this unit be left in view while charging instead of hidden away.
according to the instructions, the lithium battery can be removed. obtaining a replacement 20-volt lithium battery might be possible when available.

Great vacuum, does the job as expected. I've vacuumed out two vehicles so far and each time it lasted long enough to finish the job. The first time was leather interior and floors of an Acura and the charge lasted longer than the job as I tend to keep that car cleaner anyway. I did the floor-mats and all carpeted surfaces with no issues or scratches to the leather.
The second vehicle is my 2001 Pathfinder - the "dog car" which was considerably dirtier and covered in dog hair. The Black + Decker did a fine job and lasted for about 20 minutes - long enough to get the front and back seats and floors but not to get to the back cargo area. I used the incorporated brush a lot to dislodge my English Sheppard's long hair from the seats but admittedly there's still dog hair left behind - which I expected. If I started with a clean Pathfinder and then did regular touch-ups it might be fine but this SUV was dirty and the B+D still managed to do just fine.
I like the adjustable nozzle and also used the built-in crevice tool to get into nooks and crannies. Pic is of the hairy dog for reference :>)
