Reading the other reviews of this product I realized I had to write one of my own to help potential purchases realize they will really be missing out if they bypass this heater. This is the fourth space heater I've purchased in the last two months and finally one I can keep.
My living room has three sets of glass french doors, high ceilings, and lots of windows. It is very hard to heat it, but there is no central heating system, so I have to rely on space heaters. I tried the expensive Vornado (over $100), which didn't make a dent in the cold, the noisy Honeywell oscillator (which not only gave me a headache it was so loud, but also didn't provide quite enough heat, though it heated better than the Vornado), and the WindChaser radiant heater (which left the room freezing cold but made me sweat at the same time, extremely unpleasant). Finally I found this item.
It heats the room to the point where it actually shuts off sometimes, having reached the desired 65 degrees at night or 70 degrees in the day. The fan is as quiet as the Vornado when on high and is even quieter when on low. The quietest heater I've ever found. And as for the cord, while my oil filled heater does have a thicker cord and I do notice that this cord gets warm where that one doesn't, after 96 hours of continuous usage, it is just barely warm. Hardly anything I would worry about starting a fire, though a thicker cord would be a good investment for the manufacturer to make.
Given the natural limitations of space heaters, I think you simply can't do better than this one. If this heater doesn't work for you, then an electric space heater isn't going to do it for you and you should be looking at other heating options entirely.

This is a rewrite of an old review. I initially gave it four stars and went on a bit over that I felt the cord should be heavier and would likely be the thing that ends up putting this thing out on the sidewalk. Well, I've owned and used this heater for five years now and can absolutely confirm no problems.
Further, we rent the entire floor of a townhouse in Queens, New York City and this heater has been great particularly for changes of season when the landlord typically doesn't turn on the heat. It makes a big difference in our comfort when our home would normally be cold and uncomfortable without it.
It heats a rather large space very well and you don't have to be sitting right in front of it get toasty warm as the fan is strong enough to blow hot air quite a distance. It is also not too noisy--no motor noise from the fan or buzzing from the heat element, just the sound of air moving.
It can oscillate, but we never bother using that feature. Just put it in a corner or a doorway and turn it on.
I don't know what the difference is between ceramic heat versus that of a steam radiator or kerosene, but I can say from experience that the heat from this unit is very comfortable--not too intense with one focused hot spot and the rest just warm, and you don't have to be practically sitting on it either.
Bottom Line: Five years on, I've certainly gotten far more than my money's worth out of this excellent little heater.

I've had this Lasko heater for a few years now. This past month it started shutting off after a few minutes. I was just about to purchase a replacement when I decided to see if there was anything I could do to fix the problem.
When I looked at the back of the heater, the vents were completely clogged! 10 minutes of cleaning later and the Lasko runs good as new again!
I actually took the heater apart and cleaned the vents from the inside out with a thorough washing in the sink. Two of the eight screws are triangle head to keep you from taking the unit apart, but if you use a small enough Philips head, you can easily unscrew them.
After taking apart the heater, I understand why the heater kept shutting off. The temperature probe to monitor over-heating sits just in front of the vents. When the vents are clogged, the inside rapidly heats up because there is no air flow.
3 or 4 years later and the Lasko keeps on heating!

When I received this, I couldn't believe how small this thing was. It really doesn't look like it has any power, but I was completely wrong. It is so powerful and made my room warm so quick. I am using it in master bedroom (14' X 23') and has plenty power.
Temperature setting comes from 60 to 85 degrees in 5 degree increments plus "MAX" setting. "Max" is the default setting, so whenever you turn on, it starts on max which is so much better than my old heater where I had to press the button for 5 times to get to the highest temperature.
Having a remote control is very handy especially in the morning that I don't have to get out the bed to turn on. It has all the functions on it too (although the display is hard to see from the bed). Oscillation function is nice to have also. Timer is kinda interesting. Display only shows 1 hour, 2 hour and 4 hour, but combining these, you can set it up to 7 hours.
I also purchased a smaller heater made by the same company for my bathroom and this is also a great product (Lasko 754200).

HonestReview- I have 5 Lasko heaters as well as other Lasko products(fans). This heater is probably the most powerful one I have to date. Don't get me wrong, the other Lasko heaters I have are great and heat up the rooms they are assigned, but speaking from a heating room size ratio, this get the job done quicker. It raises the temperature a lot quicker than my other heaters. I have 5 bedrooms all of which are different sizes, so every heater I have is purchased and tested to best fit the rooms temperatures needs. I can put this heater in a 5x5 room and it would be overkill. I currently have this heater in a large master bathroom approx 12' x 13' with 12' ceilings. It heats up the bathroom nice and toasty, that my other Lasko heaters could not heat. The heating element is about 9.5" x 2" for your reference. Please see my pics

We have leased a two-story townhouse. We call the upstairs the Sahara and the downstairs Antartica. Heat rises up, so no matter what temp we turned the central on, the upstairs got hot, the downstairs.... ehhh. So we got one of these for our living room and come downstairs in the morning and turn it on. It makes a major difference. We *love* it. My dad's wall heater went out so we brought him this until the new one came (2 days later) and had to fight to get it back. :) We bought him one online and it should be delivered next week. He (like us) liked the silence, the osccilation, the temp control... everything. And we're not heating just a bedroom, we're heating a big living room. It makes a world of difference. Love everything about it. Remote control way cool when you're sitting down and think ya wouldn't mind having it a tad warmer around you. I've read the other reviews, we haven't had "cord" heating troubles. Just warmth and with the osccilation, it isn't just blowing one direction, it's spreading the warmth all around.

We own two of these towers and love them, but the older one suddenly cutting off every time after a few minutes' use. We tried the recommended reset method of unplugging and waiting fifteen minutes before restarting -- but to no effect. After trying and failing to reach Lasko's customer support, we did some Web searches and found that someone had fixed a similar problem by cleaning the vents. I inspected mine and found a thin layer of dust that appeared to be clogging the fine vent screening on the back of the unit. After simply brushing away the dust, this fine heating element is again fully functional!

I purchased this because when I researched space heaters, they say that ceramic is safer than the others. I liked the fact that you could program temperatures, that it has a timer, that it can be set to rotate, and that it has a remote control. This works very well and it is quiet too. It is not heavy at all, so you can move it where you want it.

This will be our third winter using this heater, and it works just as well today as it did when first took it out of the box. We couldn't be happier with this heater. This heater is very quiet, even on the high setting. The only thing not quiet is the beeping when pressing any of the buttons to turn on/off, oscillate, timer, etc. But even then that is not worth deducting a star from this heater.
The temperature feature is one of my favorite features. We are able to put this in our little girl's room and not worry about her overheating. It shuts off when it reaches the chosen temperature, and restarts when the room drops below that temperature.
Ideally, this heater is best used in small to medium rooms. On occasion we do use it in our living room and it does take the chill out of the room, it just takes a little longer.
I personally have never used the remote for this heater. However, if I used this heater in my room, then I think the remote would be a nice feature.
Addressing other reviews about the cord getting warm, I have never noticed it. And we run our heater for hours on end.

I couldn't get by without this little heater. I first used one at my sister's when I was visiting. It was cold in the room where I slept. The big attraction for me is the timer. I can turn it on, jump in bed and not worry about falling asleep and forgetting to turn it off. I bought one of my own when I got home and used it for I think 3 years. It was still going strong but we took it camping and it fell in transit and broke. I immediately bought another one. We wait as long as we can to turn our furnace on and when we do, we keep it as low as we can tolerate. We use the Lasko to take the chill off for short periods of time rather than turn the furnace up and warm up rooms that aren't even being used. It's cheaper for us to pay a little more on our electric bill than a lot more for fuel oil to run the furnace. We take it camping even though we have a furnace in our camper. We don't spend much time IN the camper so there is no point in using propane to keep it heated. So we use the Lasko to take the chill off either when we get into a cold bed or just when we are sitting around at night playing Yahtzee. The best thing about using it for camping? We have to buy our own propane but the campground pays the electric bill (for part time camping only). At home, if you use it just an hour at a time as needed, you can keep the electric bill under control.
