This filter does what it's supposed to do. It's easy to install and is a convenient and effective alternative to using separate filters for wet and dry jobs. While I've heard some complaints that the old wet filters were easier to clean, I haven't found this to be an issue.
Make sure this cartridge will fit your particular Shop-Vac model. According to the manufacturer, it does not fit the following models: 1x1, BullDog Portable, Mighty Mini, Hippo, Hang Up Vacs or AllAround Series.--Josh Dettweiler

This is the standard filter for most shop vacs. The model I have is over 20 yrs old and it says a lot that you can still buy the filter for it. Filter is durable and reusable after cleaning for years. This is only the second filter I've had to buy since purchasing my Shop Vac.

If you use a wet vac of any brand, (they're all made by Shop Vac), pitch the sheet of paper, rubber band and foam filter. Determine the proper size pleated cartridge filter, put it on and clean to your hearts content. Wet, dry, it doesn't matter, no changing filters. If it gets too dirty and clogs, just remove and rinse clean and you're good to go again.

Exact Factory replacement filter. This filter gave new life to my 10 plus year old Shop-Vac. I suffer from allergies and cleaning out the old filter is not a option. This is the way to go if you can't beat out the dirt from the old filter. Put a plastic bag over the old filter, turn the retainer counter clockwise 1/4 turn and pull everything off into the bag, tie and throw away. The new filter comes with a new retainer. No need to get your hands dirty, and no allergy attack.

I like the old separate foam wet filter and paper cylinder for dry pickup, simply because cleanup of the foam filter was so easy and you could get all the gunk out of it. I have used my shop-vac to empty a small manmade water feature with a pond in the backyard. The seaweed groaties washed out of the old foam wet pick up filter completely.
With the new materials being used for filters on various equipment, the new multitask (wet/dry) filter is alot more durable but still harder to clean than the simple foam filter.
There is also the extra expense. This type filter costs more initially.
Oh well, the cost of progress, I guess.
All in All, I still think Shop-Vac makes the best shop / wet-dry / worksite vacuum on the market.

It's a Shop-Vac brand filter. It says "Type U" and "90304" on the packaging. As promised, it does indeed fit my shop vac, which is a 10 gallon model and about 4 or 5 years old. Hurray.

These OEM filters are the same as the ones that come on my shop vac and about 4 bucks cheaper than at the big box store near my home. Fit and function same as the one that came with my 14 gallon Shop-vac.

After using my shop vac for that last 4 years, I would suggest that you consider using bags in your Shop-vac...especially if you are picking up very fine particles...like drywall dust or mortar mix. These paper filters aren't meant to replace bags. I hear a lot of complaints saying that the vacuum's motor burned up only after a short time. It's usually because the filters have become clogged.

Get your bags here when you order your new filters. They're also cheaper here and Shop-vac brand name.

I highly recommend both. And, will buy both again.

Perfect fit in my shop vac. I use my vac for everything, thus, not being rich, I clean my filters frequently---I have a long haired dog---can't afford to keep buying filters--so a gentle cleaning of the filter lasts a long time---of course my air compressor does the final cleaning. I might get 20 or so cleanings of this filter before I really need to replace it with a new one.

I noticed my shop-vac wasn't sucking or blowing as much as it used to. I opened it up to see this matte of dirt clogging the entire filter. I ordered a new one, and it's as simple as pulling off the old one, and putting on the new one. It works great now. Considering we've only replaced them like once every 5 years or so, these are a good deal.

I have used this filter on a 6 gal. Shop Vac for years. I simply hose it off, outside, when it's nearly plugged and let it dry before reinstalling. Eventually, though, the washings do take their toll on this filter and it needs to be replaced every few years. Using a filter bag ( which I recently bought and installed for the first time) in conjunction with this filter will probably greatly extend the life of this cartridge and eliminate any vacuum discharge dust as well.
