This has done wonders in our closet here in FL. It used to have a nasty must but now it's all gone. The smell is not that bad if you like lavender. The smell does fade after about a month to a hint of lavender. We leave our closet door open so this may affect the strength of the smell after time. The photo attached is about 2 months old now and the crystals are nearly gone and the bag is 3/4 of the way full. I recommend this product - but they are cheaper at the members only big box store. Wayyyy cheaper.

We have used these in our closets for the past few years. They work great and are easy to dispose of (just don't try to open and drain them, throw them in the trash as is). However, the Amazon price is extremely disappointing. I order these online from Home Depot for $7.97 for the SAME 3 pack (buy a few boxes and get free shipping). Why is Amazon so much more expensive?

My closet smelled like mold when I first moved in and I complained and had 3 people from my property mgmt company inspect it. They couldn't find anything wrong. Finally my landlord came out and said it might be moisture I the air and suggested I search for moisture catchers. I found these on Amazon and it's crazy that in three months, they caught about a liter of water from the air. I put one in each of my two tiny closets and I was shocked when I saw them work. My clothes don't smell anymore. I just bought a refill!

I recently discovered a musty, "mildewy" type of smell in the closet that houses my hot water heater and some other things I store there; and I decided to try Damp Rid in order to control and neutralize the smell! Boy, am I glad I chose this product!
It's very easy to use this--it's child's play. Just open the box, remove one of the three packs of Damp Rid and hang it in the closet where you need to have the bad odor removed. It right away struck me with a strong baby powder type of smell but fortunately I like the smell of baby powder. It hangs on a plastic hanger that comes attached to it and when the white crystals inside the bag stop being white you just throw it away and use a new one as a replacement.
I am very impressed with this product. I've only had it a couple of days not but it made a huge difference in the smell of the closet right away. Closets, of course, have little or no ventilation so any musty smell will just stay there. If you have anything like a hot water heater or anything flammable in your closet I would use Damp Rid instead of an air freshener which itself might also be flammable.
The package has three bags each lasting about 60 days. That's a six month supply and I'm very pleased. The cost is well worth it.
Of course, this can be used in other areas just as Amazon notes; garages, bathrooms, laundry rooms and more. Although they say it's septic safe I would dispose of these in the garbage; I certainly wouldn't put this down into any septic system. In addition, this product has a strong scent. If you are allergic to scents you may need to choose another product.
Overall, this is one awesome product. I highly recommend Damp Rid for neutralizing bad odors in closets and more and replacing them with a baby powder smell.

I live in Central Texas where it is always humid and damp and the mold count is generally in the medium to high range at all times of the year. We also happen to live in an older home that has closets which, for some reason, lend to dampness and mildew. I don't know if it's because of the way the wind blows on that side of the house, or what. But the walls basically sweat and the closets get damp even without a leak of any kind and without rain.
Anyway, I buy these things religiously to keep our clothes, leather coats, shoes, and closets in general, fresh and dry. They really make a difference and you can visually see how much water is being pulled out of the air.
These packets hang up like a hanger and are self enclosed. They can't accidentally knock over like the Damp Rid buckets can. Once the moisture is absorbed in, it's "locked" in. (The bags are quite durable, but they *can* be punctured.) And they easily function in these small spaces, where an electric dehumidifier can't reach or it's just not feasible to consider a Damp Rid bucket.

This has been a life saver!
Apparently we've had an ongoing leak in a bathroom pipe. The access to this pipe was through two closets next to the bathroom. One of the closets is used for storage and I had not been in there for months - until my downstairs neighbor complained that water was dripping into their closets. Whoa... it was like opening the door to a stinky sauna when we went into my closet to check. The leak was fixed, but the plastering cannot be done until everything is dry.
Last week I found this product and hung one in each closet. I have to admit that at first the fragrance was quite overbearing, but that went away after a couple of days. And now, just a week later, the lower bag of each is half filled with water. It is so amazing that I am going to buy more (fragrance free)and hang one in every closet. I will also hang one in my car, which always becomes very humid after a rain. I am very pleased. Thank you DampRid.

I can NO LONGER recommend this product. I have had two of these bags leak, and now things in my closet are ruined!
The way this system works is that crystals in the top part of the bag absorb moisture and then "melt" down into the bottom part of the bag. The combination of the moisture and the crystals creates a very greasy, viscous liquid that is stored in the bottom of the bag. If the bag breaks or leaks it is a disaster. Only use this in an empty space. I am so upset about the things in my closet that are now just covered in goo. Irreparable damage.

A friend suggested this product for me. During a heavy rain, my car flooded inside and mold grew everywhere inside my car. I took my car to the car wash, had them really clean it out well, then purchased this product to hang inside my car to remove any left moisture. (I have an older car). It's cool how the clear bag at the bottom, fills up with liquid over time. It's removing the moisture out of my car and no more mold at all. Once the lower bag is full of the water like liquid, you toss out and hang another one. I do not have a garage so this worked great. These are mid sized bags, not tiny at all. No obtrusive order either. But it does and did remove additional moisture. I will buy this product again. I may try one inside where I live since I do have a lot of mold inside too. I'd like to see the moisture content as I know my humidity is very high indoors. I'll try to add a photo to show the inside of my car and mold "before" I got this, and before I had my car cleaned. Good product and thank you!

I love this product and hang it in basement and never use a dehumidifier this works fine.
Also works well in closets that are kept shut, and walk in closets off bathrooms and keeps the dampness out and makes the area dry and fresh.
It just smells clean and fresh. I would never be without, one might be surprise the dampness it takes out of the area it is hung, I would highly recommend using them and will never be without having them

I purchased these at Home Depot, and I put one in each of our two closets that attach to our master bathroom. After about a week I started noticing the "water bag" on the bottom start to fill up. The bag seems to be made of mylar and will most likely hold up to retain the water. There is a "strong" smell so expect that if you are going to use these in more confined or smaller spaces - I presume the larger the space, the less of a direct smell. The water in the bag has to be coming from the air, so I know they're working. I must note, however, that the current Amazon.com price is more than 2x the price at Home Depot, and that is very strange. These are great, but at the current Amazon.com price, shop around first!! (yes, the Home Depot price is for a 3-pack and not an individual one)

I was skeptical but willing to try anything at this point. I live in California, less than 15 minutes from the beach & the walk-in closet is fairly close to the bathroom. My closet always smelled so damp and musty and of course this transfers to clothing. I've tried everything (except a dehumidifier), and was constantly rewashing clothes. Space is an issue so I decided to try these. They're small and you just hang them. I hung one in the closet on 5/25/16, today is 6/6/16. I had somewhat forgotten about it until I walked into the closet and it smells so fresh. I decided to check on it and WOW!! I was blown away by the amount of water/moisture inside this little bag in barely 2 weeks. I attached a photo, you can see the water level at the bottom. I had to hold it up against a lamp so you could see the water line. The other photo shows how easy they are to hang (don't put near clothing). Mine probably won't last as long but that's fine with me. I am so happy with these and am planning to buy more for other areas of my apartment.
