We have a low pile Berber carpet, a high pile softer carpet, and vinyl in our house and this thing picked up on all three surfaces no problems. No problems at the transitions either. Just using a back and forth motion over about 2-3 foot span at a time it picked up Cherrios, puffs (parents you know what I mean), hair, dirt, lint, dried mud, dog hair, and every little random object in it's path! Easy to dump out and doesn't have many crevasses so you can just wipe it with a wet rag or a cleaning wipe (Lysol, Scotch Brite, Clorox, whatever) to keep it clean. I have a 10 month old and we just kind of follow him around with it! Helps us vacuum less which he HATES the vacuum. Makes practically no noise too so I can use it at nap time.
Follow assembly instructions (easy enough) and within minutes you'll have a great little "dog".
My husband said he'd EASILY pay double for it now that he's seen it work! Very very worth it!

I bought this sweeper for our patio which is carpeted. It works great picking up leaves and other things that blow in. I quickly put it together while my husband napped. No problem with the handle. I am so pleased at all it picks up. Love my new helper sweeper!!

LIST FOR THE LAZY (full review below)
LOVE: Works amazing on rugs
Picks up crumbs, hair, paper chunks, leaves, cereal
No motor, no cord
Quiet and quick
Easy to put together
Easy to empty
Hangs flat against wall

DON'T LOVE:
Prefer broom for fine dirt on hard floors
Only works on edges if you sweep parallel to them

This just arrived in the mail like 20 minutes ago but I'm already in love. I have 3 kids under 6, and my house is mostly wood and tile floors, so I can sweep most messes quickly and easily. The area rugs and entrance rugs can be a pain in my ass though. I hate dirty floors, but I also hate having to drag out the whole vacuum. I was looking at cordless stick vacuums for the convenience in between regular vacuums, but all the reviews said they either didn't suck larger things like leaves very well, or the battery didn't last long enough. I ended up getting this sweeper for $17 due to a lightening deal and some built up credits, but I'd pay the usual $27 price all over again if I have to! Hopefully with it not having a motor though, it will last me a long time. It was extremely easy and quick to put together, and it effortlessly picked up the carpet junk I've been ignoring since I ordered this two days ago - mostly crumbs from the kids, but there was also a ton of leaves all over the house and some chunks of ripped up paper. I had my fun for a few minutes and now the kids are finishing up for me. It does magic on the rug, and okay on the hard floors if you pass slowly over top of dirt. I prefer the broom and dust pan for fine dust and dirt on the hard floors, but it did do well on the paper and cereal under the kitchen table.

The handle feels ample sturdy for me, but I will probably have to watch my 3 year old destructo child with it in the future. It doesn't *feel* flimsy at all, but it *looks* like he could bend the handle if he got it stuck under a piece of furniture and pulled up hard. If you are without destructo children though, this thing is so lightweight and simple that I can't see any parts of it breaking any time soon.

The sweeper head is pretty low profile so you might be able to clean under your furniture depending on how high it is, and the handle folds all the way down against the floor. This is also really useful for storing it! It's only a couple pounds so you can hang it on a hook and fold it flat up against the wall, or stash it on the side of the fridge or inside a closet or wherever.

I saw some people asking about edges. As far as that goes, the sweeper requires a full pass over the surface, so for me it will only work on edges where you can sweep parallel to the surface. But in that case it does as well as on open floor!

Overall This is a super great purchase if you need something cheap, simple, and lightweight to use in between regular vacuums. I'm so ridiculously excited to not have dirty floors anymore!

I used to have a Bissell carpet sweeper many years ago, and this particular model was most reminiscent of it since it's one of the bigger ones with double brushes and double trap doors underneath. This is a sturdy, well designed sweeper.

I bought it for use between vaccuuming for everyday pickup of lint, crumbs, cat hair, etc. Not only is it great for all of those on our carpet, but it also works well on ceramic tile and linoleum.

It comes fully assembled except for the handle, which has pieces that just screw together. You can leave off one or more of the handle sections to customize the handle length (if you're in a wheelchair and would prefer a shorter handle, for instance).

It stands up on its own when not in use, or you can fold it flat and hang it or fit it into a tight spot for storage.

It's easy to empty by holding over a garbage can, opening the little trap doors on either side by pressing the protruding little tabs, and giving it a slight shake.

The brushes are held in by pressure and can be popped out and combed and/or washed once in a while.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much this thing picks up, even though I used to own one like it. It's light weight, very quiet, and there's no cord to worry about. I highly recommend this as a quick, easy method of keeping your floors clean on a regular basis.

Ok, so I just ran to the door and quickly unwrapped this because I was ecstatic about its potential to keep me from flipping dust up everywhere when sweeping as well as keeping me from my frantic search for the dust pan everything time I swept. So here it goes:

Body of the sweeper:
The sweeper comes with the main head already assembled but has you connect multiple pieces together to form the handle. No instructions came on how to put the handle together, but a quick glance at the parts was all that was needed to understand the process. The handle feels sturdy and easy to manuever. I would say that I wish the handle was perhaps adjustable to accommodate for the height range of users in my family ( 4'11" to 6'4"). The bottom of the head has two sweeping brush heads that are soft and pliable to the touch. I was initially worried about how soft they were thinking that they wouldn't be ridgid enough to pickup heavier crumbs.

Performance:
**note: I only have hardwood floors (wood and tile).
I first started in the kitchen with this thing and it picked up everything it came encounter with- cheerios, dried cheese, lettuce (we had just got done feeding my toddler, fyi). I then traveled into the living room and collected a hefty amount of dog hair. The only con, or simply something I wasnt expecting, was the noise this makes. It's a bit noisier than I thought, not overly noisy but it is noticeable. I will say I am- so far -very impressed with this. I plan to update after a bit more use.

I purchased this a few months ago and I have really come to like this product and depend on it. I have even donated my downstairs electric vacuum cleaner which I no longer need. I have hardwood floors with area rugs downstairs now so some may have a different experience if they have thick carpet.

-Does a great job of picking up my cat's hair and my 2 daughter's and my wife's very long hair. I never even noticed how much hair my wife and kids seem to lose until I started using this. Must be from when they are brushing their hair downstairs.

-It does a great job picking up dust and debris on the floor and on my area rugs as well, you do have to go back and forth sometimes to get some items but it will pick it up. (if it seems as if it is not picking up very well, it is probably full and needs to be emptied).

-I did notice that after using it more than a few times that you do have to tighten the handle back on a little, it does tend to come loose. It is an easy fix but the company should address this. I am still not taking a star away, I really love this item..

-I also like the fact that the product is partially made from recycled material.

-I like the idea that it does not throw dust into the air like an electric vacuum does which could bother some people with allergies or that may have asthma like my wife.

CONCLUSION: Inexpensive product that performs very well. This is the first manual sweeper I have ever used and I am very impressed. I like the fact that it is using no electricity to complete the job. No more cords to worry about being long enough and being able to find an electrical outlet. I am not saying this performs as good as an electrical vacuum cleaner but it sure does a good job picking up surface material.
If a person is concerned about getting all of the debris that settles at the bottom of the carpet over time then having a professional steam and shampoo every so often may not be a bad idea.
I just use mine pretty much everyday now and the dust and debris does not build up.

Thanks for reading and I hope my review helped you.

EDIT:
My oldest daughter and my grandchildren came to visit and she liked this product so much that I ordered one and had it shipped to where she lives 8/2014. My daughter has thanked me several times, told me how much she loves it, and how great it is to have around the house. My daughters entire house is tile floor with rugs so this works out just perfect.

Let me start off by saying I'm a very clean person. I do however border on concern everyday when I push this thing around our house for a few minutes. It's amazing what this picks up. And frightening what is generated and drops on the the carpet on a daily basis. I empty this thing out and it's like a horror show! A crime scene! Ahhhck! Unbelievable. I could base a CSI show on what comes out of this guy. Two small kids, 3 animals, enough of my hair alone to make a stuffed animal out of. I won't terrify you with more details but BUY THIS THING.

I have hardwood floors and kilim rugs, and a dog and cats. This sweeper is exactly what I needed! It easily and quietly picks up everything in its path - pet hair, cat litter, dust, crumbs; it picked up a leaf today, and a bobby pin! - it's as easy to store and take out of the cupboard as a broom, and as easy to use. Unlike other sweepers, the handle pieces don't just push together (and come apart when you're using it) - they screw together, so they stay together. It's low enough to go under furniture and the edge of the fridge. And it doesn't scare the cats. I can't recommend it highly enough!

I purchased this BISSELL Sweeper almost a year ago, and it's still going strong. I bought it because I run a home daycare and often I need to quickly vacuum the rug but can't use a vacuum cleaner because it makes too much noise. This sweeper makes hardly any noise and although you sometimes have to go over a spot a few times to get all the dust and sand up, it works really well. I also like that because there are no cords to run over, the daycare kids can help clean up too, although usually I need to do it again properly once they are finished and have gone on to do something else! They really enjoy helping. It's lightweight and easy to use, and to empty it, you press the panels underneath it in to flip the lid covering each side to get the dirt out. Both brushes are also removable so you can clean them properly too when they get hair and fluff tangled around them.

This doesn't work that well on hardwood flooring, a broom is faster, but for carpets and rugs it's really nice to have.

I highly recommend this for anybody who wants to be able to vacuum up mess without the noise of a vacuum cleaner.

I bought one of these for home (I have cats) and one for my office. I'm really impressed at how well it works. I use it on low pile rugs and hard floors at home, and low pile carpet at my office. It picks up cat litter on hard surfaces and rugs like a charm, and it quickly picks up the little bits of paper that end up scattered around my office looking bad (shredder bits, dots from hole punches). What's really awesome at my office, is if things are looking bad, someone can run it up and down the hall or through the waiting area even while I'm on the phone or with a client -- couldn't do that with a vacuum cleaner because of the noise. At home, my cats don't love the sound it makes, but they also don't all go run and hide like they do when I haul out the vacuum.

Anyway, this is a great tool to use between vacuuming events. Some of the best money I've ever spent.

Also, the handle comes in four or five pieces that screw together. My assistant mentioned that if you made the handle short by only connecting two sections or so, you could give it to a kid and call it a toy. I don't have toddlers to test that out on, but it might be a good way to keep floors clean. ;-)
